Spider Craft
This is a great project for children 4 years of age and older.
Items needed to make Spider:
One 2 inch Styrofoam ball preferably white or black
One 1 inch Styrofoam ball preferably white or black
Three 24 inch black pipe cleaners
2 wiggly eyes
black acrylic paint (if Styrofoam balls are not black)
silver glitter
spay adhesive craft glue
hot glue and hot glue gun or a fast drying craft glue
- Paint both Styrofoam balls black and let dry. (if Styrofoam balls are already black skip to step 2)
- Glue the two Styrofoam balls together. (Younger children may need help specially while using hot glue gun)
- Glue on the two wiggly eyes on the 1 inch Styrofoam ball adjacent to the larger Styrofoam ball.
- Cut 2 of the black pipe cleaners into eight 6 inch lengths for the legs. (may be easier if cut ahead of time, when younger children are involved)
- Using the last 24 inch pipe cleaner cut a 3 inch piece of it to create the fangs of the spider.
- Bend the fangs pipe cleaner in half and press the round end of the pipe cleaner into the smaller Styrofoam ball underneath eyes.
- Press 4 of the 6 inch pipe cleaners into the larger Styrofoam ball, starting by the head of the spider and going to the back of the spider, making sure to stay in a horizontal line along what would be the ribcage of the spider.
- Turn Spider 180 degrees and press the remaining four legs along the other side of the spider starting at the head and working your way back.
- Bend each leg in the center at an approximant 45 degree angle.
- Spray the spider with spray adhesive craft glue and sprinkle with silver gliter or decorate as desired.
